On the one hand this makes it four times harder than normal embroidery needles and on the other hand the anti-adhesive surface prevents the eye of the needle and the long groove becoming coated with layers of adhesive and foam. The embroidery needles also have a large eye with a hard coating, which ensures less thread friction and a smoother thread run.
